In today's fast-changing world, skill development and education have become more important than ever. With its young and growing population, India has a unique opportunity to become a global leader in skill development and education. However, there are still many challenges that need to be addressed to achieve this goal. Why is skill development important? Skills development is important for many reasons. First, it helps individuals find and keep good jobs. In today's economy, employers are looking for workers who have the skills and knowledge to meet the specific needs of their business. Second, skills development helps boost productivity and economic growth. When workers are skilled and knowledgeable, they can produce more and better goods and services. Third, skill development helps in reducing poverty and inequality. Skilled workers are more likely to be employed and earn higher wages, which can help them improve their standard of living. Why is education important? Education is also important for many reasons. First, it helps individuals develop the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in life. Education teaches people to think critically, solve problems, and communicate effectively. Second, education helps promote social mobility and reduce inequality. Educated people are more likely to get employment and higher salaries. Third, education helps create a more informed and engaged citizenry. Educated citizens are better able to understand and participate in the democratic process. Challenges to skill development and education in India Despite the importance of skill development and education, there are still many challenges in India that need attention. One of the biggest challenges is the mismatch between the skills that employers are looking for and the skills that workers have. This is partly because the Indian education system still focuses primarily on academics, with less emphasis on vocational and technical training. Another challenge is the lack of access to quality education and skill development programs for all Indians. This is especially true for women and people from disadvantaged groups. What can be done to improve skill development and education in India? Many things can be done to improve skill development and education in India. First, by reforming the education system to make it more focused on vocational and technical training. This will help ensure that students are graduating with the skills that employers are looking for. The second is to increase investment in education and skill development programs. This will make them more accessible and affordable for all Indians. Ultimately, it is important to raise awareness about the importance of skills development and education among the public and employers. Conversational Take with Dr. Nadeem Malik So, what does all this mean for you and me? This means we need to make sure we are developing the skills and knowledge we need to succeed in the future. This may include going back to school, taking online courses, or simply learning new skills on your own. This also means we need to support investment in education and skills development programmes. By doing so, we can help create a more efficient and productive workforce, which will benefit everyone in India. Here are some specific things that you can do to improve your skills and knowledge: Talk to your employer about what skills they are looking for and how you can develop those skills. Take advantage of any training and development opportunities that your employer offers. Look for online courses or workshops that can help you to develop new skills. Read books and articles about the latest trends in your industry. Attend conferences and networking events to meet new people and learn about new opportunities.
When the World Stopped My toes gripped the mat as my palms spread and pressed downward…downward dog. I breathed deeply and tried to slow my racing mind. I reminded myself that this was my time-my moment in a day of the never-ending carousel of days punctuated by masks, social distancing and an increasingly violent news cycle. I had nowhere to go and nowhere to be regardless of the yoga. Covid and its threat was enveloping our country, and my familiar yoga studio was shuttered. So, I remained on my yoga mat surrounded by disinterested teens and a curious dog as my virtual yoga class continued on the screen. My twice daily at home practice bookended a monotonous workday of never-ending phone calls and ceaseless rejection- 'No, we are trying to keep our business afloat not spend 100K on software." Even I understood how absurd my job was at that moment. But I persisted until the day ended when I could escape to my mat and exhale all the negativity from my "dream job" and find my center-my breath. People think yoga is about the achievement of the pose, but the true focus of yoga is the breath. No pose is possible without mastering your breath. You breathe to calm the mind, you breath to set an intention, and you breathe to deepen your stretch into a pose. Ujjayi Pranayama or Victorious Breath is created by restricting your breath in the back of the throat inviting a deeper connection to those practicing around you- even those on the other side of a computer screen. More important, it invites you to a deeper connection with your inner self. Without Ujjayi Pranayama, yoga is just stretching and without a deep connection to your inner self, you're just existing. For me, the understanding of breath was the start. In fact, the more I practiced the sound of the ocean in my throat, the more I found myself moving in an inhale/exhale motion through once mindless tasks chasing the sense of calm and focus that I could only find on my mat or at a keyboard creating. Who Did I Think I Was? As quarantine persisted with more uncertainty, yoga was where I found my solace and calm. It was during this time that I allowed myself to imagine a life where I was would be free to refocus on the creative callings that stirred within me. It seems yoga was awakening not just long ignored muscles, but my desire to claim the life I craved. With this in mind, I explored the idea of a yoga certification. What would that look like particularly in the post-Covid world? How would I achieve it? And most important, who did I think I was anyway? All these answers would come in the most likely place-my yoga mat. However, did teaching yoga align into my higher purpose like finishing my second novel? I was working in software sales because I liked it. No-that's a lie. I was working in sales because I wanted to make a lot of money. I looked to some magical income number that would allow me to escape the corporate world to inspire others with my writing and teach yoga. I had resigned myself to sales for safety. After all, who was I to decide that I would embrace my talents. So, I chose misery-at my job (it was never about the job), my co-workers (it was never about them), and my lack of process on elusive goals (guess what-the goals weren't the problem either). I was my own worst problem. I was the person in my own way. My mind finally realized that there was only one way, and I already had the answers. The second that I merely dipped my toe in the direction of my dreams, a door opened immediately. I would waffle for a few more weeks before taking a step and walking through the door completely and shutting it on my former career behind me. Brave New World Yoga…it saved me and continues to save me every day. My body releases and relaxes as I flow through the movements and center my mind and breath. I still strive to shut out the day-the deadlines, the to-dos, and the nagging feeling in my cavegirl mind as I lay in shavansa that I am cheating on my productive self. But once I let go and give in, an organic peace of mind centers and focuses me for whatever might lie ahead. Yoga created the understanding in me that life is not the work we do but the space we inhabit every day. Understanding this allowed me to reconcile that my desires in life from writing my next novel to sharing the transformative path of yoga with others would continue to crowd my space unless I took a leap and let go. Just as in yoga, I had to let go of the ideas and thoughts threatening to crowd my head. I had to finally acknowledge that I knew exactly who I was and that my corporate journey needed to end. As I deepen my yoga practice, the rest of my life aligns to answer the call. I am able to take this time of great uncertainty and breathe unapologetic certainty into my mind, my heart and my soul. Yoga reveals to me that I must let my mind unravel to possibility instead of wrapping my mind around opportunities not meant for me.

Yes it's so nice when you're trying to get a new life together and you've got a million things running through your mind like; how to market yourself in a diverse market and how to fund myself for this new change in career focus that I'm embarking on, when the flu hit me and sent me straight to the toilet. It's never fun! lol So here we are now a few days later and I still feel crummy. I didn't get a wink of sleep and all I can do is sit and write which is a good thing right now. For 15 years it has taken me to strengthen my back and get myself to where I can sit up and write for awhile without too much pain providing I sit up a straight as possible. That gets hurt some too at times and then I take a good break. Good thing I get up frequently to stretch my limbs! But in all honestly the flu has me writing. I'd love to be helping someone right now. I wish I could offer my services in support work. I loved my PSW position with Paramed Oakville. But that was 18.5 years ago now. Wonderful people to work for and my job was fulfilling and my patients delightful. Last night, I laid in bed and thought about many things and the one question came to mind was, "How many people have a version of the flu right now?" I guesstimated that probably in my city at least 300 people. Thank goodness I'm not in need of the ER. I feel for the people who do. Well, I just needed to say Good Morning to you and I hope you're feeling well! LOL Thanks for the chat! :)
So, here I go again. Another post, Another day! But this day's a bit different. I am not depressed but I am not at peace either. Something's bothering me. You'll get to know soon! So, you may consider that you have achieved quite a lot in life but you are still not at peace. You always tend to show others that you are satisfied, fulfilled with your life. But let me tell you one thing, deep down we all have regrets and sorrows. That wish we had as a child to achieve something big has been suppressed by so-called society. We have been taught that we cannot be a superman as it's not realistic. We have been taught not to think about being a billionaire, instead be a normal money-earning machine, because it's not easy to be a billionaire. So, we find a normal job, a life-partner, have kids... Basically settle in life. But deep down its a human tendency to feel the need to be unique, to be different. But the world has trained us to be a normal person. So, first, just take a pause in your life and ask yourself a simple question. Are you happy with your current life? If yes, you need not read the post further. But if you are not this post might help. So, if you are here, I guess you are not completely satisfied with your life. What if each day you woke up to go to work you had something exciting to do. Something that caused the adrenaline rush in your body. Something that may be creating a superman suit or racing cars or flying a rocket. It could be anything you dreamt about. Just start chasing your goals. I cannot guarantee your success. Actually nobody can. But it's better than leading a compromised life. This post though mostly focuses on work-life, but this can be applied to your personal life as well. You can be the best son or daughter. Or a cool and amazing dad. Aur the best neighbor! Just don't compromise on any sphere of your life. Now the next big question arises, what age is it right to start chasing dreams. Or is it too late to start chasing my dreams? Answer to that is just in front of your eyes. Now, you aren't chasing your dream for money, or power, or position. You are chasing them because you don't wanna compromise. You want that exciting feeling in life. So, wherever you are, in a marketing firm, in a tech company, teaching in a school or a waiter. Just stop there for a while and ask can I do any better? Can I give my 100% to my job? Or would I like to change domains and go to an entirely new field? Do I have resources to switch my field? Where can I get those resources from? Seek answers to the above questions. May be many of you don't know what they want to do in life. It's fine. Give your 100% to whatever you are doing and that will give you a hell lot of confidence. When you know that you are the finest salesperson in your company or the finest cook in your city. Just don't compromise on your desires. Let the child within you play.
There is a sign, of course, at the foot of the drawbridge: “Welcome to the inside of my head”. Ah yes... take in the brilliance of my Disney-like castle. The palatial grandeur, the iridescent colours. The bricks are units of time: from small second-bricks to huge year-ones. And those turrets? They're decades. The fourth one is still under construction. Do you see how my castle shimmers on a sunny day? When the skies are warm and blue, marvel at the French doors that swing open to the sound of music. Out pop amazing stories of wild adventures, daring encounters and breath-taking journeys. Out dance passionate affairs dripping in salacious details, followed by hilarious conversations, endearing anecdotes. Inside my Castle of Time it's like one of these multi-screen cinemas where rich assortments of films are playing simultaneously, in various languages and with different subtitles. There's upbeat jazz music – the quick tempo a perfect remedy for the chaos of my ever-spinning thoughts. Fairy lights are a-twinkle and the scent of freshly baked bread magics a smile upon your face. “How clever, how witty!” visitors say. “Super creative… fabulous imagination.” “Aren't you tired? There is SO MUCH going on here,” says a kind soul. “Inspirational.” “I can't stop laughing. Do you do this professionally? No? Well, you should.” “Those psychedelic dreams!” “So capable,” says a tourist, clapping me on the back. “Great potential. When is your book coming out?” But suddenly, thick clouds set in and drown out the sun. The drawbridge creaks and heaves as it clanks down. There, in that muddy moat that hugs the castle, live terrible traumas. Hideous monsters that rise from the murky depths. The tigers crouching under the drawbridge are males who touched me, uninvited. The dragons hiding in the rye are the screamers; dominant men who must be in control at all times. There are more demons in that pond, lurking in the shadows of the Castle. The snakes are the cheaters, the scorpions the contaminators. Worst of all are the piranhas; the loved ones that simply upped and left. They wake up when my castle is stressed, scared or worn out. That's when the CP (Condemning Priest) who rules the place spews his poison, his Sect of Smug Women screeching that nothing I do is good enough. “My book,” I tell the tourist, breathing away the tension, “Oh, I don't know. I…” By now, the grey sky is pressing down on me. I feel exhausted. I want to run inside the donjon and hide in a room marked PRIVATE. It has a sofa with a warm blanket, a TV, books, and mountains of chocolate. “You'll never amount to anything,” the CP sneers. His Smug Women snigger. They've caught up with me, loving the torture. “Others write better, more poignant stories,” they mock. “They're successful. You're not.” “You have no energy to pull it off, a book on the market? You're always tired. Loser!” “Failure!” “You've got wrinkles. Time's up.” “Your body is flabby, you can't stop bingeing.” “You say you work hard but you have only ONE child. Pish.” I try to ignore their scorn. Grunting, I shove the CP and his haters in the pantry and lock it. I have another tourist to show around. “And where are you from?” I ask as I throw away the key. “Macedonia.” “Great,” I smile, opening the golden doors. “Здраво. Јас сум Сузана. Како си? добро или лошо? Мило ми е.” The woman's mouth falls open. “How did you...?” “I learnt some Macedonian whilst studying in Barcelona.” “Which languages do you speak?” “Oh,” I say shyly. “English, Dutch... and to varying degrees, French, German, Spanish, British Sign Language, Arabic, Italian, Mandarin and Turkish. “Can you read the Cyrillic alphabet?” “It was amazing to read signs in Moscow,” I say excitedly. But in the distance, I hear banging and clanking. The CP and his army of Smug Women. They're breaking out of the room. I feel anger bubbling inside. “What about Arabic?” the tourist asks. “Love reading and writing from right to left.” “And the Chinese one?” “Don't push it.” Grinning, the tourist picks up a memory. “Wow,” she breathes. “You covered this posh hotel in the Seychelles? You're a journalist? A writer?” Before I can even reply, the CP comes galloping up, flanked by his faithful followers. “She was,” he barks, “but now...” BAM! My fist hits him square on the nose. He slumps on the floor, clutching his bleeding face. Did I just do that? The tourist is too wrapped up in pictures of tropical trumpet fish and gorgeous Creoles to notice. She grabs a Huge Fact off a shelf. “Who's this handsome little prince? You're a Mum too?” “Lazy sloth…” one Smug Women starts. "She..." But I don't let her finish. “Oi,” I say, yanking the Smug's hair. “I am the Queen of my castle,” I bite at them. “No one else. Shoo!” “That's right,” I tell the tourist as I glare at my retreating demons. "And I do both well.” Yes, I've got some fight left in me. But how do I banish the baddies from my castle forever? Time will tell.
I don't know what it was. But it just happened, all at once and there I was crying an ocean of tears in front of bare walls. I had a lot of hatred for those people, a lot of agonies. Anger was not because they rejected me, but for the fact that they crushed my confidence, they questioned my judgments and revolted against my principles of life. They made me feel worthless and who cannot do good work for the industry. But deep inside I still knew that I was a born leader and an excellent coder indeed. That night I couldn't sleep. I just wondered if what I was doing in my life was worth it? I was chasing a dream that wasn't mine. I was restless not because I was thrown out but because I was trying to become a person that I portrayed to others, not the one I actually was. I was doing stuff just for the sake of doing it. I wanted to quit. But there was a fear deep inside that I had come so far and I couldn't start all over again. Questions like 'What if I failed?', 'What if I regretted my decision?' started pinching me. Soon I figured out that these were all related to the question 'What people would think of me if I failed?'. Because if I was alone and I failed I wouldn't mind failing. I slept... The morning was another day of life. I had to force myself out of the bed as usual with the hope that today, maybe, I will like the work I do. Days passed by... One fine day, I just came across a quote "Failure defeats losers but it inspires winners". That changed my view all of a sudden. One rejection cannot lead me down. I don't want to be a loser. I was NEVER a loser. So I made up my mind to start doing something. So I started listing my goals, the one that directly gives me pleasure. I had a detailed chart of all my personal, professional and health goals jotted on a paper. I always like to jot things for reference. I pasted it on a wall in front of me. The list was huge but it contained all things that give me pleasure so it wouldn't be troublesome to follow it. I started going to the gym, coded regularly, paid full attention to the courses I was doing. And over a period of 1 month, I regained my confidence and I was all fired up to do big and go after my goal passionately. I rediscovered the real me... Sometimes you lose your real self to impress people who are not worth sacrificing for. Never compromise on "THE REAL YOU". So this was my journey of rediscovering myself after 1 rejection which probably was the best that happened in my life. Rejections are a path for selections. Cheers !!
The LGBT in Russia are constantly threatened, murdered, and isolated. For them I became a writer. I believe in writing the way people believe in god. Literature is as banned as religion was in the Soviet Union. My first novel is set in my hometown of Saint Petersburg, Russia. When I learned of queer men being put on a hit list database in Russia, I was unnerved. Coming from a country with few human rights, I imbue my work with representation most personal to me. Writers inspired me with their wisdom. I want to inspire the younger generation of readers who have no mentor. The survival tactic for being ripped from Russia and dropped into Kindergarten in the United States: Understand the aliens around you. Figure out how you can fit in, fast. I've always been trying to understand people; I write entire books about them. I was raised travelling: Speeding through Israeli cliffs and surviving when the bus behind mine didn't. Crying when the plane bumped into Leningrad Airport and I was home in Russia for the first time since I was five years old. My experiences with diverse cultures drives everything I do. I have had lots of jobs. One of my favourites was being camp counsellor on Vancouver Island for high schoolers from the Philippines. I could pee without wiping, make smoke with my hands, and watch a mongoose skid and fall into the river in fright from our kayaking crew. Not to forget, my taste for adrenaline. The flow of typing; the skid of skis, a desperate attempt at friction, force against force. My mind's always lived in the fast lane. Though it had kickstarted my intensive writing, not a word of my journalling ended up in the novel I finished six months later.
