The delicate spiral of LIFE--

For four months… Yes! Four months ago the president decreed a nationwide lockdown that would later be followed by a curfew that saw my wife and I, alongside Williams our son and Doreen our house help abandon our day today cares to close the doors behind us into a quarantine birthed by the looming fever and panic-- the fear of catching the coronavirus, a hotcake popularized by the main stream media, a headline for every TV station and Newspaper. For us it was an overseas virus, perceived to be so lethal, deadlier than HIV/AIDS and SARS combined! A virus we only watched on our tiny Television whose threat was now a global reality. It is July 2020. and now the coronavirus restrictions are systematically being eased, though with caution. Previously, only workers in the essential fields were allowed to move about their business with a permit. Among these were; the health workers, journalists and food Stores/shops owners. During curfew hours, the silence became so loud that one could hear a pin drop on a woolen carpet. With more research, private cars owners were allowed to drive for as long as they observed the SOPs. This later sparked a lot of excitement that saw vehicles speed off to the city causing a dreadful traffic congestion that had many spend a night or two in enforcement coolers for floating the curfew hours. Later on, organized market spaces and now public transport would have the state permission to operate with caution. We also witnessed the closure of all borders including the airport, a move that locked out hundreds of fellow country men. To this day they are still closed and no international flights are allowed. We however learned that a classified number of travelers were flown in at the height of the lockdown, these travelers were aboard an Ethiopian Airbus to escaping the unforgiving virus across the pacific. They would later be followed by countrymen and women from other parts of the universe that would end up into a mandatory quarantine on arrival for 14days. It was then when Mummy Williams and I marveled at the privileges some citizens have over others, a reminder of George Orwell's book titled “Animal Farm” a real life casting-- the projection of the haves Vs the have nots. Day in and day out, we all sat glued to our most cherished tiny grey Television position in one of the corners of our beloved warm little home where we closely followed "The National Televised Presidential Address." Doreen, with her hot combed natural hair, carried the baby on her laps, Williams, cheerfully taking the contents from his milk bottle had a yellow flannel tacked to his chest vest for purposes of cleaning spillovers oozing from his delicate little nose. The president on the imaging voice-box before us, spelled out the 'dos' and 'donts' in Standard Operating Procedures-- SOPs meant to prevent the spread of the virus. We were and are still constantly reminded to wash our hands with soap, to avoid touching our eyes, nose and mouth as well as wearing a face mask at all times while in public. The terror then, now so real... alive and hovering over the pearl of Africa, put us all in grave fear as the number of infected persons skyrocket with only two deaths. However, the much scary coronavirus was not the biggest fear in the lockdown, our biggest scare was waking up without a Job, a reality that would soon present itself with no remorse, carrying along a sea of worries and a sombre wave. For our savings were already depleted. Anxiety and depression set the pace putting to taste our love, a battle from which we emerged victorious holding onto the gift, love had given us, "baby Williams".
