I and the coronavirus pandemic.

Jul 28, 2020 4 years ago

After completing the final examinations of my school, I was awaited to enjoy the summer with my family. I had humongous plans for the upcoming academic session. On the morning of 25th March, I woke not by the annoying sound of my alarm but by the gut-wrenching noise of the television. When I walked out of my room, I saw my grandfather reading the morning newspaper inquisitively through his old-fashioned spectacles. He then frowned upon a specific headline. I was taken aback by his expression. I sensed some sort of perturbation among my family members. The tranquil atmosphere of my house was filled with dismay. I was perplexed and inquired my grandfather regarding the situation in the house. He narrated all information he had about Corona virus and it's spread in India. I then understood that, the spread of Coronavirus around the world was the reason that disturbed my family members After hearing my grandfather, I wasn't much serious about this issue and assumed that it would be like any other disease. Only after surfing on internet I realised it's seriousness. I was extremely frightened by knowing it's effect on humans and became anxious by watching live statistics on death rate. The News headlines, the overwhelming notifications on my phone and the talks in my home were filled with the word 'Corona'. I was agonizing over the pandemic and expressed it to my parents as well. On watching me brooding over the issue, my parents decided to take me to my paternal grandparents' town. We packed our dresses , wore masks and were precautions during the journey which lasted for an hour. On reaching my hometown, the fresh air of the countryside opened up a new horizon of life and the calm scenario relived me from the hustle and bustle of the city life. I was welcomed by my puppy and was so excited to see the mud houses that I built the last summer was still there. I almost forgot the pandemic that the world was seriously grappling with. I soon started utilising my time for constructive activities. I woke up early in the morning to experience the Sun rise with a cup of Tulsi tea prepared by my grandmother. Having no work given from my school, I plunged myself into the good old books of my grandfather. I soon fell in love with reading novels and read them for weeks. I and my family members ate together which was rare before the lockdown. I spent the evenings playing with my sibling and watched horrors on television. The nights in the countryside are always exhilarating. I always gazed the black sky before sleeping and this eventually became a habit. On one hand, I was safe inside my home and was nurtured by the love of my parents and grandparents. On the other hand, the news of corona virus killing thousands of people across the world and leaving many people desperately hungry made me distressed. This pandemic is remarkable a disastrous one posing economic, health and social challenges to the entire human population. I see this pandemic as a response from the mother nature. Nature is always altruistic towards humans but we have turned unscrupulous towards nature. We proudly make headlines on forest fires, climate change, deforestation and what not. We tested the patience of nature and now nature took its chance. I see this as a call for the young generation to protect this beautiful planet. We all have to understand that, "NATURE NEEDS NO HUMANS TO SURVIVE BUT WE HUMANS NEED NATURE TO SURVIVE" Moreover, this lockdown time strengthened my bond between my family, helped me gain the wisdom of my grandparents and made me emotionally stronger.
