We live in a world of friskiness. We cannot abide for what we feel before this frisky world. We cannot escape. There is no escape. Because there is no exist to the great world we have left behind. It is a frisky mouse trap. There is no salvation. We are attached to its frisky awareness. Many of us try to hold safely these frisky waves of existence and we have failed miserably during these 100 years of living hell and separated individually if that is a frozen pond. Not because this mean we still believe that tomorrow will be a new tomorrow but rather all around is a frisky sense of emptiness. Every time we awake, and we become aware we are still breathing, a junk of kindness leaves us trembling physically, mentally and spiritually which it creates a vacuum of exhaustion. Philosophy of life tells us the simplicity of value cannot be beheld by the perception but instead by the will. The Stoicism encourages us to face all odds by struggle further our own willingness. In fact, they force us willingly to create a habit of our fear a frisky hope. Existentialists observes that we are not a social paramount giver but rather we are layers of this product they call it a culture menace and while religions have a hill task of convince us we are not the sinners here, we collapse among ourselves so poorly and together the essential of being the only human that principle of royalty is all about we fight among us like vultures. So, what is left? What kind of frisky truth we should grasp to our dying beings to restore ourselves as we were previously made? That is the true essential of being humans for everyone involve.
The current global climate is confusing, anxiety inducing, and even a little bit frightening. There are multiple radical political figures on the rise, and a continual denial of human rights and equality. But these factors are met with resistance, the voices of social activists and ecological defenders are becoming louder and louder. Our world is steeped in complexity, for every person who can imagine a more liberated future there is one who fights for the comfortable status quo. As stated by Emma Goldman, “Every daring attempt to make great change in existing conditions, every lofty vision of new possibilities for the human race, has been labelled Utopian” (Goldman). Utopian thinking is making an important comeback, both socially and artistically. The idea of utopia or paradise is something almost every human has longed for, individualistically and collectively. Humans desire fulfillment and an ideal sort of happiness, which we have searched for across art, literature, and religion. A photographer who we do not often associate to the ideologies of utopia is Robert Mapplethorpe, an artist more known for intense imagery and the beautification of queer sexuality. Robert Mapplethorpe uses the power of the camera to break through distinctions such as race, gender, and sexuality expressing the longing for equality and intimate comfort within a queer space. Mapplethorpe created the image "Embrace" in 1982, capturing a passionate moment between a mixed race homosexual couple, providing an alternative to what was a traditionally accepted relationship. Mapplethorpe's use of black and white film, shadow, and positioning to capture his subjects creates a passionate yet raw image. His models fill the direct center of the frames entirety pronouncing the passionate grip shared between the two men, hinting at the emotionally and physically secure bond that is shared. Mapplethorpe's dominating use of formalism in capturing his subjects provides for a beautiful image of a typical gesture, yet hints at the emotional depths that must be shared between a discriminated couple. The flexing muscles of the arms along with the closeness of the chests shows us the deep affection shared between the two, allowing us as viewers to imagine the comfortability and potentiality that this relationship has. Using a Utopian lens while analyzing this work gives us a glimpse into the ideal qualities of a personal relationship and its future, features which can extend to society as a whole. Examining Mapplethorpe's photography through a Utopian methodology critiques important aspects of everyday life exposing both the negative social stigmas while also pointing to the positive and hopeful desires. Both Utopian and queer studies focuses on the idea of what is not yet here, and how we can use this potentiality of what is missing to create a future (Munoz). The blending of race and sexuality that is provided by "Embrace", ignores the previous notions of what is acceptable in a relationship combating the “perfect relationship” ideal that heteronormativity provides. He visually poses the question of what could happen when we accept hybridity into our lives, evoking an intrinsic look in order to find the answer. Mapplethorpe's "Embrace", gives us an insight of the Utopian principles we can instill in our everyday relationships, allowing us to find bliss within the ordinary (Munoz) . The dreams of utopia prompts us to reject the status quo, and contemplate within ourselves as to what's important. As humans we always strive to obtain the ultimate good, and it is by first finding what is desired within ourselves that we can learn how to create this reality. Examining the work of Robert Mapplethorpe under a utopic lens shows us that intimacy, acceptance, and community bonding are essential tools in creating a personal utopia. These images gives us a glimpse into the qualities that are ultimately desired in our interpersonal relationships, while hinting at what's missing in contemporary culture. Utopian thinking creates a concrete possibility for another world, providing tangible tools that can lead us in the direction of a hopeful new future. Sources: Goldman, Emma. Utopia Quotes. With the widespread use of modern technology, nowadays convenience, comfort, and coziness are the parts of our life. Human civilization has reached at that point of time, which was never so prosperous and technologically advanced ever before. According to Wikipedia, the Gross World Product is about US$107.5 trillion in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP), and around US$78.28 trillion in nominal terms. The total amount of money in the world is estimated to be around $60 Trillion. With this figure of present world various speculations can be made, one, if you are from the developed country, you may believe everything in the world is happening as the best it could be. Whereas, if you are from the developing world, you may think future is going to be excellent for you or it is challenging ever depending on which regions of the world you live in. After all, we have superpowers to so-called feeble countries on the same planet, earth. The difference, distance, and division are not only seen among the distinct countries but also among the people living in a single country. Some people are living in the big mansions, whereas several other people are sleeping under the stars on the footpaths. Some people are lucky enough to ride Lamborghini and fly on private jet planes, whereas some don't even have a pair of slippers to travel on foot. Some people do not have anything to nibble on, whereas, some pay the tips at five-star restaurants even higher than the wage those impoverished people earn after day long tiring works. Innovative ideas, of course, are winning the heart of the people and ruling the world everywhere, all around the world. For an instance, innovative ideas and technology introduced by technologists and companies earn good revenues. Revenues are good when the profit is maximum, and profit is more when the price of offered products or services is high. The high price of anything is expensive, unaffordable to most of the people since average people earn way less than CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of the big corporate world. Have you ever thought how the current world has become the great place to live in terms of quality, opportunity, and equality? Undoubtedly, apart from the technological advancement and development, the teaching and learning in the past by recognized or unrecognized extraordinary human ancestors had contributed to the world to come to the present stage. Many creative ideas helped humans to spend their life with ease and novel belief made humans morally right and knowledgeable. As time passed by intellectual property became subject to confide within oneself or limited within a group of people or organization. Most of the companies that are believed to be important to build today's modern society keep the ingenious ideas of them surreptitiously. This practice is partly to be blamed for the existing disparity among people living in penury and superrich. Imagine what if supreme world leaders in the past had kept their intelligence learning secret? If they would have done so, there would be no such religions like Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism etc. today. Likewise, the globally proliferated old local technology would not be in access to most of us. Nobody can think of the worldwide famous beverage tea copyrighted in the past. How bad that would have been for millions of tea lovers from all around the world. Thanks to all those real humans with the great heart for making our earth better place to live to some extent. The present state of the world seems to be perplexed and lost, considering the situation in which developed countries are in fear of possible terror threat, unbelievably with feminism and surprisingly with the rising economy as well as the prosperity of developing countries. The business world is busy making money regardless of any concern to the well-being of its consumers in most circumstances, tech giants are competing to help humans settle on other planets when we are having a tough time here on our own planet of birth. We have either forgotten or are unknown about the humility and empathy in the never-ending competition of earning wealth, enhancing the supremacy and in establishing prestige. We live in the society where people worship the power of money, physical force, beauty, and influence. Maybe an Ignorance is a bliss but that does not last for long and our insensibility has already shown outcomes of two world wars. We could learn from the nonviolence revolutionary leader Mahatma Gandhi but still, we do practice violence like in Syria, we could be generous like Berners Lee to move the world ahead in technology but we are plagued by patents, copyright and royalty kinds of stuff, we could learn to be humble from the forbearance of Jesus but no that is not our cup of tea. We need to instill leniency, liberality, and love into us to make the utopian alike society to keep our generations alive.
