'And the award goes to…' The crowd goes wild, a standing ovation with shouts of praise ringing from all around. Familiar faces past, present and future glowering with satisfaction yell 'Speech! Speech!' I stand up, my confidence glaring, my strut overconfident and my smile misplaced as I walk up the stage to receive my award. I take a stand directly under the spotlight, right in the middle of the platform. I don't need a microphone, my words come were their own amplifier, I raise a hand and a sudden hush fills the room. 'I am young,' In another world this is an advantage, to aliens, I am worth something. An able-bodied youth that will protect their homeland and one day build their economy. The welcoming of a successor to leaders in transition, a key to a luminous future. Then there is the world that I live, where I am lazy, weak and useless, a bane to the existence of my elders. I am languorous and pessimistic as I waste my life on things that do not even bring me true joy. But I was not born this way. You see at my Genesis I had a clean slate, a myriad of options lay before me. And it was the duty of the sages in my community to guide me on the right path so I could become something of substance. This is where failure began. When the so-called patriarchs of my dear land, who were too busy sniffing up white arses, brown faces turned darker by foreign faeces, to care what I was to become. My role models who myopically rob their own pockets. Fogey pregnant men that do all that is within their power to keep my realm gerontocratic, so they may never have to deliver. I ask what example can a human with no morals set. Then there are the parents, the omniscient ones that force and beat me into conformity. That tied my dreams of creativity down like a balloon to rock and thrust their version of reality upon me. "You cannot be an actor, you will be a doctor," "You cannot be an athlete when you can be a chemist," "You cannot be a musician, that is not a profession" My progenitors, their word is law, I obey. They delay my independence for the fear that I would become wayward. Suddenly I am shoved into a world I do not understand when they deem it time for me to be an adult. Ohh and I must not forget the unsung heroes of my miseducation, the teachers and the preachers. Those who instruct me on the most old fashioned and conservative way to live my life. Spent old bores that squash my free-thinking, training clones not individuals, followers not leaders, in learning centres they work on my eyes not my mind nor my heart, not even my hands. What exactly do I do with such baseless beginning? I will tell you, nothing, I just sit at home and waste my youth. So here I am with eyes but I refuse to see, a brain but I refuse to think. Will I remain a rebel in ways that only leave me with more scars or worse strive for more mediocrity? In a void-less paradigm, in a world without depth; in a country without a voice, after decades of using lies to keep me in check, I stand now stuffed on untruths and I accept your award for Repressed Nigerian Youth.
So I just finished watching this AMAZING Iranian Series based on the life of Prophet Joseph (A.S) also named as #YusufPayambar and I was left simply mesmerized and amazed by the kind of execution of the story the makers did! I'm really thankful to my mom who recommended this show to me and to #786 stories4u YouTube channel which has all the 45 episodes dubbed in English as well as in Urdu 😍🙏 @mostafazammanif won my heart by playing #ProphetJoseph and his mild and patient act with explicitly showing husn e akhlaq and forgiving nature made me fall in love with the REAL #ProphetJoseph even without seeing him ❤ Another stong and dominant acting and portrayal of #BanoZulaykha flipped my perspectives of love, devotion and piety all at once. As much as I had a strong prejudice against Zulaykha's character especially after knowing what she did with #YusufAS but @katayounriahiofficial7 turned the tables of my views for Zulaykha and by the show ended, I had an idea of what she might have gone through and how she was tempted for Yusuf. This temptation and a wait of 30 long years later paved her way for knowing Allah (the only God) ❤ Loved the performance of #JaferDehghan as #Potiphar (Ameer of Egypt) which gave off kind and affectionate fatherly vibes for Yusuf even when he had to put him in jail under Zulaykha's pressure 💕 @rahim_noroozi excelled in convincing me that he was the real King of Egypt and a pro-Islamic & kind king since his childhood observations and his deep friendship that he shared with #Yusuf was so blissful! 👌🏻👌🏻 At the end, if I don't praise the Director of the show, the DOP, the makeup and the set makers and all the huge sets used to make us feel ourselves in real ancient Egypt, I would really be unfair and unjust cz it just made the aura of the show so grand and impactful 👏 Lastly, @mahmoidpakniat left a deep rooted impact on my faith by playing #ProphetJacob and his intensity of sorrow for his lost son which made him go blind, showed a next level of devotion he had for Yusuf 😭 Strongly recommended! All 45 episodes are available on YT dubbed in both English and Urdu. Ur reviews and opinions about the show (after watching it) are welcomed🙏🖤
Spoiler alert of That 70s Show!!!!!! Last night as I was watching an episode of “That 70s Show”, I saw that Hyde, one of the characters, cheated on Jackie, the character played by Mila Kunis, and I started to think about trust. See, he was one of the characters that I liked the most and I really thought that he was a good person, even though he played and made jokes with everyone. As I watched what happened, I couldn't believe it. When Jackie found out that he cheated on her, she chose to not talk to him and ignore him. Since I started to think about trust in relationships, I decided that if someone cheated on me I would never trust them or talk to them again. However, after watching the episode, I actually believed that Hyde was sorry and what he made was a mistake. And this made me think: should I change my mind or do I still think I shouldn't accept an apology? I always thought trust was something that shouldn't be broken. It should be preserved and nourished. For me, it is not something shallow, it is essential for a good and healthy relationship. So, if I deeply love someone, should I accept their apologies or stand up for myself and leave them? This stayed in my mind and I still can't decide. Later, Jackie gets back with him, and this didn't upset me. But why? He broke her trust but because they loved each other, they came back together. But should I just believe that love is going to fix everything? And how would I live with that thought in the back of my mind? I am still very young so I don't think I will find the answer soon. Actually, I hope I never find the answer, but it feels good to just let my mind wonder.

“Why didn't you run away?” the interviewer sat with her hands placed together in front of her as she waited for the response. “I wanted to, so badly. I honestly never left because financially I was to scared to be on my own. For me, if I had ran away I would have cut all ties to them. So financially it was my only choice. Then I turned 18 and started to work. At that time I was told to help with paying bills and slowly they were placed on me entirely. I was pretty much coaxed into staying for as long as I did.” she nodded and continued her question “When did you decide to leave?” “Actually, all the way up to now they've stayed with me. 4 years ago I bought my house and they moved in behind me. Since our childhood we've made peace with how we were raised and the things we've been through. I don't hold any resentment and we live peacefully now. I'm mostly on the road so I rarely see them but when I do we have quality family time.” the blonde smiled “That's very sweet of you, I'm happy you were able to find your peace. Romantically, is that something that has happened in your life?” Melanie laughed “I was wondering when that question was going to come up. My love life has actually been getting better. There's some ups and downs but over all quite interesting.” a shocked look graced the interviewers face “Please do tell. We're all quite interested in hearing about your adventures.” Melanie gave a small smile and nodded. “It's not much, I've only had two past relationships they ended pretty quickly because we could never see emotionally eye to eye. There was one that wanted to much from me, and there was one that wanted very little. In the end, I ended with neither. Then when I had made peace with living alone and just focusing on my career, he showed up.” “I see, so are we allowed to meet the one who has melted the Ice Princess' heart?” “I've never understood how that nickname came to be. I would love to out my relationship, but that needs to be discussed by us. For right now there's no hurry.” “Aww, well I wish you two all the best and we're actually coming to a close but one last question tell us how was it that you two met? We understand not being able to tell us who he is but how about a how?” Melanie let out another laugh and conceded “Okay, okay, I'll give a short detail how we met.” She adjusted herself more comfortably. Smiling back at her interviewer she thought back to the moment that she met him. “A year ago today actually. I was out of the country doing a series of projects. At that time I was working on a series and a movie. I had a meeting with the producers, I believe it was during the day. that I had to visit before going back to the hotel. I walked in and there's people running around and just busy with their work. So as I was walking in he was walking out and we bumped into each other. Of course I recognized him but he obviously didn't know me. At least that's what I thought. We excuse ourselves and went our way. Well the Producer that wanted to work with me had introduced me to the ‘actors'.” She paused and looked behind the interviewer. He was standing there, with a smile on his face as he reminisced the day they met, the day that had ignited the love that he feels towards Melanie. She smiled and looked back at the person in front of her. “They walk in and there walks in the one person I would never have thought to work with ever, at least in this lifetime.” Melanie looks back towards him standing on the sidelines with a smile still adorning his face “That day I met the man who would show me how to love.”
The usual narrative as follows: The Soviets did shock the good American by putting the first manmade object in orbit. Then the first dog. And then the first man, and the first woman too for good measure. They kept on one-upping Uncle Sam until he got tired of it, gathered his everything to do the impossible, and delivered a momentous uppercut in the form of a size 9 ½ B boot marking and the brave red white and blue on the moon's grey soil. Then, after the customary high-fiving and just celebrating in general, they all went home to beat the reds wherever they need to be beaten. The race has been won after all. Or so we thought. The race continued. Even after the massive upset of '69, the soviets could record another triumph, the first space station in orbit. Then just as in natural order of things (classic human showmanship to his fellows), the following decade saw a back and forth between the two superpowers of the Cold War and humanity did brought up to the sky and announce their intentions to rule it one day. We saw humanity making the first forays into Mars, signifying our interest in extraplanet excursion. We sent probes—markings of our own—into the fringes of known space, setting our foot into the cosmos. And—even when the cold war was still going on—we showed that, though divisions might run deep, we made multinational space endeavours a thing, marking that a humanity together is a humanity strong. Great achievements were made along the way as we continuously raise our own bar of expectations. And so the saying goes, that the journey matters as much, if not more, than the destination. The Space Race spurred within its participants a desire not only to one-up the other, but also to learn, the drive to innovate, the mindset that no obstacle could not be overcome. Along the way, scientists and engineers made great breakthroughs in physics, engineering, computing and statesman and bureaucrats learned a thing or two about helping to run one of the most massive undertakings—the magnitude of which could not be overstated—in human history. Most important of all, all of this happened not only in one country, or two, but across multiple nations from all over the world, and advancements made were not only for the benefit of the space programs being launced, but also much to the developments in other fields due to tangling nature of technology and science. We can thank the Space Race for satellite TVs and memory foam. In the end, to say that one side had won the Space Race is simply asinine since as far as we are aware, on top of space programs still existing until now—only between new faces—each side have their victories to call their own that did contribute in their own way to the human race as a whole. Then if we really do need to answer the classic, ‘Who won the Space Race?' Why, Us of course!
addiction əˈdɪkʃ(ə)n/ noun the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance or activity. Never before have I felt anything like it. It haunts my dreams and waking days, invades my thoughts and pulls on my emotions. It runs through my veins like a drug, awakens my senses and causes me to do things that ultimately go against my personality. What could do such a thing you ask? Well, the answer is what you would least expect. Dog shows. I look down the metro car and sigh. My ministry team sits on both sides of me, conversing about things amongst themselves. All unimportant to me. I should be preparing and going over my Sunday School lesson, but all I can do is stare blankly down the metro. The rocking of the car under me brings me back to the three months I spent working for a professional dog handling couple before coming here to school in Hungary. I close my eyes again and imagine balancing myself in the crowded RV I spent the majority of my time in, brewing a cup of coffee in the moving vehicle and setting it in the cup holder for my employer. I can see the winding American highway out the front window of the RV and I can't help but smile sadly. What I would give to do it all over again. Six weeks. I keep reminding myself, that in just a short while I can. My smile widens. I have already decided exactly what I want to do when I get back home. I want a large order of biscuits and gravy from The Dixie Cafe and I want to groom a yorkshire terrier. Anyone's yorkie. Well, any dog actually. As long as I can groom something, I think I'd be happy, just to get my hands on a pin brush and hair dryer again. I sigh again as the metro comes to a stop at Keleti Station and I exit behind with my team. I straighten my back pack and round the corner and get on the escalator. Six weeks. Just you wait. I'll be back and ready for anything. -AJC
