What We Should Realise

Jun 10, 2019 5 years ago

What We Should Realise Let me start by talking about a writer. This is no ordinary writer. The person I'm talking about is Jean Dominique Bauby. He was French. Why he was no ordinary writer, is because he was paralysed in his arms, legs and mouth. He couldn't speak. He couldn't write. He conveyed an entire book by blinking. Each blink indicated a word, letter or a sentence. His assistant wrote it. It was published after his death in 1998. When he couldn't speak or write, he still published a book. It would take enormous self-drive when you are neurotically challenged. Yet, we, who can write, sing, laugh, dance and play, cannot sit down to write even fifty words. We, who have so many options open to us, stare at a blank page, unable to write even a word! Why is this? Why do we waste it when God has given us such abundance? Those hands which can write a page of influential essays, use those hands to play video games or twiddle our thumbs, doing absolutely nothing. Eyes, that see the world in motion around us, giving us ideas for scientific experiments or angles for a story, stare into space or watch mindless television for sixteen hours a day. Now here, I'm not judging, I like some web series as much as the next guy, but I really wouldn't know since we don't have television. The point I am trying to make out here is, that its okay to spend two hours a day watching television on holidays, but seriously, watching mindless telly whole day seriously reduces your brain to mush. Louis Braille had so many ideas, but snap, vision gone. He worked to make a language for the blind. He wanted to make difference to the lives of the blinds. He wanted them to experience life as the next human. but the truth is always harsh. Some blinds deserve to see the world more than some people who can see. Another example is how Sparsh Shah has Osteogenesis Imperfecta, He had thirty five fractures when he was born. The doctors said that he only had a day to live, but he survived. He's been writing and singing songs and has never gave up hope. Whereas we jibber- jabber about nonsense the whole day instead of using it productively. I believe, a sentence can change the way the world works. We are always so very judgmental. We comment and gossip abut what the next person is doing. For a moment, think about what you do with your twenty-four hours. Do you utilize it? Can you use that time to do something more productive? Mr Pausch understood about the value of life. In his last lecture, he told that he had pancreatic cancer. He had only about a year to live. he understood about life's beauty and the meaning of utilizing time. His last lecture made an impact on millions of lives. He had three children. He wanted more time with them. Here is an example- He went to the grocery store and the machine was faulty, so, it gave him two bills of twenty four dollars. He thought, is fifteen minutes with my family more precious, or twenty four dollars? He went home a man poorer by twenty four dollars, but had fifteen minutes more. When you have a disease like that, you understand that not a minute can be wasted. This is what we don't understand. We value gold and gems above life, above home. When today we frown when we have to share a small chocolate bar with siblings, when we're older, when we live alone and have a large bar of chocolate alone, we want a family member. The things we think are small, are the things that are the greatest and should be valued above all. We get embarrassed when our mother calls us sweetie in public. When you get older, you realize, you want her more than anything. Enjoy what Lord has given us. Thank him for what we have. When we think, we don't have cable, what will the other people think of me? Nobody cares. There are starving kids in Africa with no channels. No food. Not even water. When you whine, or cry, think of the things you already have in abundance. What you have what others may not. You've got a loving family. You've got people who support you and care for you. If gold was happiness, all the billionaires would be the happiest. What we need to understand is to value the little things. We protest against environmental pollution. The cars we drive, the electronics we throw away, the trash we throw on the road, then doesn't it apply to us? Save environment, save life? We consider the lives of animals beneath us; we consider lives of people with lesser dynamic jobs beneath us. Why? Are we not the same species of homo sapiens like others? Why do we keep prejudices or fit every one into a stereotype? We are all unique we may either be a religious person or an atheist; we might have difference of opinion on religion; we may have different skin colour, but we are humans. We have feelings. We feel dejected when we're not accepted by the society. We shouldn't feel that we're small or we're incompetent compared to another. We're all special in our own way and in the end, that what matters.
