The Displaced American

Hagerstown, USA

My current situation: poverty and desperation

I am currently unemployed with no money, behind on my car payment, but I am still up beat. If people want to know how Job can still have faith after losing everything he had, it’s because material things can be replaced and life is what you make it. I haven’t worked in four months. The loss of my car would be a great impediment to finding a good job. That (good job) would help me get out of my situation. I received food stamps, I have gotten Februarys’ allotment because of the government shutdown. Not everyone on Food Stamps likes being unemployed. I have started volunteering at a non-profit in my city. It feels good to give back again. I want to work my way through this.

I had to voluntarily surrender my car on Saturday (at Car Max in Frederick). Car Max Auto Finance wouldn’t send someone out to get the car (from me), because the balance was less than $3,000.00. Someone gave me $30 for a bus ticket from Frederick to Hagerstown. The bus

only ran once on Saturday and it had already gone when I turn the car in at Car Max. Andrew at their Business Office explained that because it was Saturday, Car Max, wouldn’t be able to give me a ride to the Bus Depot (about a 9 minute drive). He then tried to find a taxi for me, but they wanted $45 (I didn’t have any more money.). He then explained that no employee would be allowed to help me (as was previously explained to me.). Then he suggested that I stay overnight the next day (the bus fare would be $18). I didn’t have money for a room (my insurance policy expired on Sunday and the MVA would charge me $150 for not having insurance), so I started walking from Car Max in Frederick, MD to a Sheetz convenience store/ gas station on Rte. 85 about a mile. While at Sheetz I asked a police officer if there was

something that could help me. He first stated that the cold weather shelter only takes people from Frederick County (which I wasn’t), then suggested my best bet was to find someone going to Hagerstown. I found 3 people will to take me back to Hagerstown. Not having a car and without any money I’ve had to cancel several interviews for jobs (Burger King, 5 Guys, Target, MVA, a temp agency, and the city of Hagerstown. In addition to canceling interviews I need to make an appointment to be fitted for cpap device for sleep apnea. I have been fitted for that equipment yet.

The system is broke. Trump has built a wall for the homeless which they overcome. Part-time jobs don’t cut it. Their path to prosperity is a dead end road. Trump claimed a record for the drop in poverty, which it wasn’t a record. Ronald Regan was right the government declared war on poverty and poverty won. Trump’s budget slashes programs for affordable housing, banking, weatherizing homes, job training, paying home heating oil bills, and obtaining legal counsel in civil matters. It easy to criticize people getting food stamps, when you get tax breaks for your hotels (how much have the tax payers of new York City lost because of tax breaks for Trump’s hotels) and for 3 bankrupt casinos in New Jersey and then have the nerve not to release his tax return (what is Trump hiding?). The government doesn’t even give job preferences for to those people. The path to prosperity and affordable housing is a $15.00/hr. full-time minimum wage job. We need innovative programs, but mostly it needs a national $15.00/hr. minimum wage. Low income housing is income based (30% of income) when your income increases such a cost of living increase for social security recipients, your rent also increases. The government gives then it takes it back.

I wanted to write a short note to let you know that I've signed the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge. I'm doing this in large part because I was asked to by students that I met at William & Mary University when we were in Virginia. Students, activists and young people I've met all over the country already understand that we don't take PAC money or accept help from corporations, lobbyists, and special interests. But given the enormity of our challenge to keep this planet from warming 2 degrees over pre-Industrial Revolution levels, we wanted to take this additional step. We know that the planet has already warmed more than 1-degree Celsius just since 1980 — helping to cause historic fires, floods, droughts, and the cost of human life that we've seen and continue to see throughout this country and the world. This warming is caused by our own excesses, our emissions and our own inaction in the face of the facts and the science. We need everybody on board to meet this challenge, and we don't want there to be any real or perceived conflicts of interest. In accordance with the pledge, we returned any money we've received over $200 from any fossil fuel company executives. We will not take any of that money going forward. And we will continue to try to run the largest grassroots campaign in this country. All people, all fellow Americans, all focused on the same goal: confronting climate change before it's too late. Before I go, I want to say to those students, especially those at William & Mary who spent the time to talk with us, thank you for your advocacy and your leadership on this issue. I look forward to working with you going forward. If you're ready to be part of this grassroots effort, make your first donation now. Your donations mean so much for our people-powered campaign that refuses checks from PACs, special interests, lobbyists, and corporations. Thank you for any contribution you can make To make a donation to Beto O'Rouke's campaign go here Beto O'Rouke Donation Page IF YOU HAVEN'T REGISTERED TO VOTE FOR THE 2020 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, PLEASE DO EVERY VOTE COUNTS

Antisemitism in America

Apr 29, 2019 5 years ago

In the backdrop of Former President Barak Obama anti-Israel stance on issues (about Israel's security). His reluctance to speak out about the Gazan conflict in 2009, establishment of a Palestinian state, repeatedly pressured Israel to freeze settlements in the West Bank, expressing frustration over Israel's secret service spying on Iranian nuclear negotiations and leaking the details to Congress.$60 billion arms package with Saudi Arabia. Politics makes for strange bed fellows Jewish voters helped elect Donald Trump in the process. Trump's son-in-law Jared is Jewish and his daughter converted to Judaism. What have they gotten in the process? Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel capital, abandons Iran nuclear arms deal, recognizes the annexation of the Golan Heights, and blasted Democrats as anti-Israel (Congresswoman Omar?). While at the same time attracting the Jewish vote Trump has also attracted white supremacists (anti-immigrant stance). Trump's comment about violence in Charlottesville, Virginia (there being wrong on both sides), tweeted about white farmers in South Africa having their land taken from them. Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump FollowFollow @realDonaldTrump More I have asked Secretary of State @SecPompeo to closely study the South Africa land and farm seizures and expropriations and the large scale killing of farmers. “South African Government is now seizing land from white farmers.” @TuckerCarlson @FoxNews 7:28 PM - 22 Aug 2018 Drunk man shouts 'Heil Hitler, Heil Trump,' does Nazi salute during Baltimore performance of 'Fiddler on the Roof' Robert Bowers (shooter of Pittsburgh Synagogue) posted multiple anti-Semitic and anti-immigrant messages on the social networking site Gab. A shooting today at Poway, California synagogue (John Earnest suspect) is another “hate crime” an anonymous message on the board 8chan before the shooting. In the posting, someone identifying as Earnest references killing Jewish people. The letter writer talks about planning the attack and references other attacks on houses of worship, including the attack on the synagogue in Pittsburgh and the Christchurch mosque shootings in New Zealand. Tarrant (suspect in New Zealand shooting) and Pittsburgh synagogue shooter Robert Bowers are listed as a direct inspiration in the letter, which is riddled with almost exclusively anti-Semitic tropes and advocacy for white supremacy. The fight has now been taken to America with antisemitism on the rise. Is this what Donald Trump really means when he says America First?

Donald Trump using his Obama eraser is getting the US out of an arms trade treaty. The agreement was signed by Former president Obama in 2013 is designed to regulate the sale of weapons between countries. The NRA says the treaty is international gun control and is a threat to America's second amendment right to bear arms. [In upholding Maryland Assault Weapons Ban the Fourth Circuit's Judge Robert B. King concluded that the rifles banned by the Maryland law fell outside of the protections laid down by the Supreme Court. "We are convinced that the banned assault weapons and large-capacity magazines are among those arms that are 'like' 'M-16 rifles' — 'weapons that are most useful in military service' — which the Heller Court singled out as being beyond the Second Amendment's reach," King wrote. There is no 2nd amendment protect to military style weapons.] The White House Verified account @WhiteHouse “Under my Administration, we will never surrender American sovereignty to anyone. We will never allow foreign bureaucrats to trample on your Second Amendment freedoms. And that is why my Administration will never ratify the UN Arms Trade Treaty.” 49.4K 2:39 PM - Apr 26, 2019 19.8K people are talking about this In a statement released after Mr. Trump's speech, the White House said the treaty "fails to truly address the problem of irresponsible arms transfers" because other top arms exporters - including Russia and China - have not signed up to it. In his 2000 book, The America We Deserve. Donald Trump “I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun,” he wrote. $50 million buys you a withdrawal from a trade treaty and also a 180. Which Russian Agent (infiltrating the NRA) ordered Trump to do this? Using Donald Trump argument that he's withdrawing from treaty because Russia and China haven't signed it and taking it to its logical conclusion. Is President Trump now going to sign the Paris Accords (on climate change) since Russia and China have signed it. DT ““Under my Administration, we will never surrender American sovereignty to anyone”. WAS THAT BEFORE OR AFTER RUSSIA MEDDLED IN OUR ELECTION
