AN OPEN LETTER TO MY UNCLE
Dear Uncle Amir, It's been so long I have heard from you. I hope all is well? If so, glory be to Almighty God. Uncle A thanks so much for the Kunu you sent to me. It was delicious and tasty. Unfortunately, I am writing this letter to bring to your notice a nagging problem which has so far defied all solutions. It is surprising because I know that you're ignorant of this development. It is embarrassing, that the issue of inheritance allocation and rites is causing unnecessary chaos in our prestigious family. Honestly, I see your urgent intervention as the only remedy. On your arrival, the tussle, faint hisses and irritating eye glances would stop due to the way everyone holds you in high esteem. I'm sure no one would want to disrespect the ‘Olori Ebi.' Seriously, even your coming alone will kill off so many serrated edges. The brothers to Papa are forcing Mama to drink ‘'water''-gotten from bathing of the dead corpse. It is so absurd that in this present generation such a mentality still exists. I feel that you should explain the need to abolish some deadly traditions. To them, drinking the water depicts Mama as having no hand in Papa's death but how about if she eventually gets infected by drinking an unhygienic fluid? You and I know that the water would contain several algae and zooplanktons. I think illiteracy is the disease affecting their minds. In addition to that, these inhumane individuals are pressing that Papa's inheritance be shared according to some nonsense tradition sorry to say. You should enlighten them on the need to act according to the will because we must respect Papa's decisions whether it suits us or not. They are lamenting that we wrote all in the document ourselves (Mum, my siblings and I) but I think they must understand that the deceased would have prepared his will before his demise. These guys really need formal education! Notwithstanding, you have to talk sense into them sir. Educate them on the need to integrate and support the family. In fact, they should be ashamed of themselves because only a stupid fellow would sit all day fighting for grants from another man's labor. Sincerely, these guys need to be encouraged to work harder and be more devoted to their works rather than idly waiting to get free property. Nevertheless, these old men have got some thinking to do because in the real sense they meant to be running helter-skelter to provide things we need for us and not them trying to get things from us. Uncle A, I would be so happy if you consider and accept coming over to sort things out. Send my regards to Nazif, Anas and Aliya. I hope to hear from you soon. Bye for now.
