The Janitor

I beg your pardon if I misspell a word, but I forgot where I left my glasses. But I guess being old is one of the prices I must pay to be the only guardian of this old ruin. But I'm getting way ahead. My name is Tom and people are always confused when I tell them about the hobby I love the most.In every dinner, party, or conversation when people have the chance to ask "and what your hobbies are??" They always saw me with a sight of confusion, trying to understand whatever they thought I meant with my answer. But, what it's the answer that Tom the janitor of the public library gave that causes confusion ? Well, whenever people ask me what my hobbies are, I always answer that I love being human. But, why do I love being a human when I have the chance to do many things with myself and my time ?? I love being a human because whenever I saw a tall building and all the engineering required to build it, whenever I see someone sharing a piece of chocolate with someone else, whenever I see a couple receiving from his loved one a kiss in its cheek, my soul fills with hope and passion, the essence of a human. And that sensation encouraged me to share the warm feeling that being a human being brings with it. Either if it is by giving my seat in the metro to an even older person. Or asking my neighbors how they are doing it, and really care about their answers. Or -what it's been my favorite way- by placing flowers or notes with jokes or compliments inside a book, so whenever someone reads that book and reaches the page where the flower or note is, they can have a nice surprise. However I have been slightly changing my way to inflate hope and passion in the hearts of others. Because I know despite the age of the eyes that run over these words, I'm sure they have noticed the hard situation of our world. And because of that I have no shadow of doubt that my hobby must become my full time job. It's time to change from Tom the janitor to Tom the human. We have been focused on the titles, positions, and words that come with our names that we have forgotten ourselves. We have forgotten that above being managers, students, housekeepers, we are humans and we have work and duty with the human race. I'm Tom the human, and I'm making humankind remember it's humanity.
